StoryLoop: Building a Better Writing Workflow with AI Coaching

Most writing tools out there focus on storage and formatting. They give you a place to write, but not much help in getting better as you go.

StoryLoop is my attempt to fix that.

At a high level, StoryLoop focuses on two things:

1. A native macOS writing app where I draft scripts and novels
2. An AI Coach that reviews my work, suggests improvements, and answers targeted questions

The magic, hopefully, is how these two pieces work together in practice.

What StoryLoop actually does

As I write, the Coach can leave structured feedback on specific lines, scenes, or pacing decisions. I can accept or reject each suggestion. I can also ask questions like:

• Is this post-prologue opening strong enough?
• Should I introduce this character earlier?
• Is this too much lore too fast?

The Coach answers in context, and those answers are tracked as resolved once handled.

So instead of a random chat floating around in a separate window, everything is tied to the draft and the decision history.

Why this workflow matters

AI based writing assistance often feels stateless. You ask, it answers, and that context evaporates within minutes.

With StoryLoop the loop workflow is the entire product:

• Draft
• Coach feedback
• Writer decision
• Updated draft
• Better feedback next time
• Repeat

Over time, the Coach gets better at suggesting the kinds of edits I actually want, not generic advice that sounds good but doesn’t fit my specific project.

Native app + GitHub backbone

Under the hood, StoryLoop stores feedback and writer questions as versioned JSON runs (files) in GitHub. That gives us two big wins:

• Full history for learning and auditing
• A clean app UI that only shows active items by default

Resolved items are hidden in the working view, but still preserved in git for context and refinement. So the writing experience stays focused without losing the data that makes the Coach smarter.

What I like most so far

The Coach is useful because it’s specific. It can catch a rhythm issue in one sentence, flag lore overload in a reveal, or push me to anchor a scene in character objective.

It’s less "write for me" and more "help me make better choices faster."

That’s exactly the role I wanted AI to play in my process.

Where StoryLoop is headed

• Tighten the feedback scoring and refinement loop
• Improve question handling for faster back-and-forth
• Polish the UI so coaching feels integrated, not bolted on

The goal isn’t to automate storytelling. It’s to create a workflow that helps me, and maybe you eventually, stay in flow while still getting sharp, contextual feedback.
